April 2025. We are pleased to offer a new line of solar filters from Kendrick Astro.

Kendrick "D-Tail" Solar filters feature BAADER AstroSolar™film, which is famous for exquisite sharpness and detail across the entire field of view in an eyepiece. Image brightness is also very pleasing and comfortable.

Features

  • Fits 90mm to 118mm OD of your telescope lens or dew shield
  • 80mm Filter aperture
  • Constructed from sturdy plastic material that will retain its good looks for years to come
  • Secures firmly to your lens cell or dew shield with three long nylon screws
  • Includes a "Synta-style" dovetail bracket for the optional Sun Finder (KS6000-D-SUN)

Baader AstroSolar™ safety film is incredibly tough and does not break or tear easily. To puncture it with a blunt object takes a lot of force, much more force that would be used in normal day to day usage.

Unlike glass filters, BAADER film does not have a smooth glass surface. Wrinkles, folds, kinks, pinholes and other imperfections in this film are normal and will be present on any solar filter purchased from us. These do not affect the image quality or safety of the filter. Anyone expecting or requiring a perfect cosmetic filter surface should consider another manufacturer's filter. Our emphasis is on the quality of the image seen at the eyepiece.

The current solar maximum cycle will continue to peak throughout 2025 and beyond offering sunspots that will change and morph from one day to the next. Many people viewed the sun for the first time during the 2024 April eclipse and were wowed by the level of activity. We encourage you to continue popping your scope out during the day to observe or photograph the progression of sunspots across the surface of our dynamic sun.

Recommended Solar Filter Sizes – For Astro-Physics Refractors, Finder and Binoculars

Measuring your telescope, binocular, finder or camera

To ensure proper fit of the solar filter, you must measure the outside diameter of the dew shield or lens cell of your telescope or outside diameter of the binocular or camera lens.
Metric conversion: 25.4mm = 1 inch.

Returns

All solar filter sales are final. Please measure carefully before you place your order so that you order the correct size. Also, pay attention to the diameter of the filter material itself so that you select the filter that you want. For instance, it is possible to order a filter for a Traveler with only an 80mm diameter of AstroSolar® filter material. However you will likely prefer a filter with 110mm diameter of the actual filter material. Review all of the specifications carefully.
